Once you have read your Handbook, please ensure that you acknowledge this policy by updating your 'Required Notices' in Epic Employee.

Code of Ethics and Business Conduct

WB Resource Guide

The Code addresses several important topics including safety, conflicts of interest, gifts and entertainment, compliance with laws and regulations, protection of the environment, fair dealing, confidentiality, accurate accounting and public reporting, and proper use of Company assets, among others. Each employee is personally responsible to abide by the spirit as well as the letter of the Code, so please make sure that you read and understand it.

If you are uncertain or concerned about something you intend to do, or about something you have seen, we are counting on you to be proactive and seek guidance or to report your concern. If you are unsure of the right thing to do, ask your Supervisor or email
ethicsquestions@vailresorts.com. You may always call or use our Ethics Helpline, anonymously if you prefer, 24 hours a day 7 days a week by calling 1-866-538-4266 (English and Spanish) or using the Internet site at www.vrethicshelpline.com

Please also take some time to review some of our Snow School's policies.

Whistler Blackcomb Policies

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy contains ten principles that are observed by Whistler Blackcomb regarding the collection, use and disclosure of personal information. This policy applies not only to our guests or clients but also to the personal information of our staff. As we will make sure that your personal information stays private, we also expect that you will do the same for any information you may collect from your guests. This may include phone numbers, email addresses, and credit card numbers that you may have consent by your clients to use. We expect that you only collect information that is needed, will keep this information confidential, only use the information for the purpose intended, and destroy the information when it is no longer useful.
Our privacy rules also extend to the use of images of guests, regardless of their age. Because a person “owns" their own image, other persons or businesses can not use that image for commercial purposes without consent.
The Privacy Office has established these guidelines for dealing with the display of photos of minors in our business. “Under 18" is our definition of a minor.
“The collection and use of a minor's image (photograph or video) requires express consent by the minor's parent / guardian. The purpose for which the image will be used must be disclosed.
The image may only be used for the purpose specified in the consent. Under no condition should the minor's name or image be used in any advertising or promotional material without obtaining written consent. Furthermore, the image of the minor should never be presented in conjunction with information that directly or indirectly indicates where a minor might be found at a particular time. WB employees should not be taking photographs of minors or adults at our resorts unless the taking of photographs is within the scope of the employee's job and express consent has been collected. No employees should post images of WB's guests, including minors, on personal or non-WB sites.
Images of minors should be distributed by the method chosen by the parent. If none is chosen, the most secure method should be used. Websites containing images and names of minors may only be used if secure passwords are established for each child/parent using the site. Use of group passwords for a site is not acceptable.

Professionalism
As North America's largest ski school, we have an amazing capacity to be able to influence not only client's skiing or snowboarding experience, but also that of 2+ million skiers or snowboarders each year! We must maintain the highest standards of conduct so that our profession and our industry remain credible, enjoyable, and thus viable.
In order to do this we ask you to adhere to the following expectations:
Treat all guests and employees with respect. Co-operate with each other, and report any incidents to your supervisor.
Show up on time for work, in the correct location.
Equipment must be well-maintained.
Always wear a clean uniform, fitted properly, with nametag.
Follow Vail's Grooming Policy.
Eating and drinking is not permissible where we meet guests.
No smoking, chewing gum or chewing tobacco in uniform.
Coming to work under the influence of drugs or alcohol will result in disciplinary action.
Cell phones are great to have for emergency situations. However, when you are with your clients, your time is dedicated to them; please pre-program your supervisor's and scheduler's phone numbers into your phone so that you can accept only calls from them.

Discipline
Our common goal: The best experience for children, parents, clients and staff.
When someone performs poorly or puts our clients in danger, our reputation suffers.
We approach all situations with the belief that the staff member had the best intention. We will gather all information available and work out what can be done so that the situation does not occur again.
We are here to support you and help you succeed.
When expectations are not met, we will use the standard WB approach:
A supervisor will talk to you and let you know we think there is an issue. We will discuss ways to avoid the issue re-occurring. This will be documented.
Possible steps that do not necessarily need to be followed in order (depends on severity of issue)
Verbal Warning
Level 1 – Written warning
Level 2 - Written warning
Suspension or probationary period
Dismissal
The severity of the incident may require immediate suspension or dismissal.
Gross negligence of duty of care will result in dismissal.

*All lessons must be booked with the Whistler Blackcomb Ski & Snowboard School. Teaching “under the table" is considered theft and will result in dismissal (and, if applicable, eviction from HOUSE).

Uniforms & Lockers
Each instructor is issued a uniform for the season, 2 if you are dual certified. This includes a coat, pants, inner jacket, hat and nametag.
In order to receive a uniform you will be asked to submit a credit card authorization (or waiver if you are a 5+ years employee). The uniform must be returned in good condition or you will be charged for the damage/loss. For more info see the Whistler Blackcomb Handbook.
Employees may wear their uniform to and from work, but may not be worn for any off- duty activities (e.g. free-skiing on days off.). However, you may be required to wear your uniform if going on morning session even if it is your day off. If you plan on free-skiing after session, please bring with you another suit to change into.
Uniforms may not be worn in licensed establishments (bars, night clubs, etc.).
When personal clothing is allowed to be worn in conjunction with Company uniform, it must be neat and clean; not torn, faded or patched.
Each instructor must keep his/her uniform clean. Employee Services in the Springs will clean it for you. Take it there just before your days off when cleaning is required.
Full time instructors will also be given a locker on a first come, first-served basis. Please note that there is a limited amount of lockers available. Therefore lockers will not be given to those staff that are Part time, Casual, or residents of Glacier Housing.
Only employees may store equipment in locker rooms. Equipment is stored at your own risk. Staff members must keep storage, tuning and dispatch facilities clean. You will be asked to clean out your locker by a certain date at the end of the season. If you fail to do so, you risk giving your equipment away to charity.

As many CASI and CSIA courses are offered at Whistler Blackcomb you will see uniforms with these logos on the hill. These staff are also expected to comply to our professionalism standards and will be given certain staff privileges (i.e. use of our locker rooms or lunch rooms, and attendance on morning session).

Helmets
All Snow School Employees are required to wear a helmet at all times while serving as an instructor or guide.
It is also highly recommended that all guests wear a helmet when they ski and snowboard at our resort. Emphasis will be placed on mandatory helmet use for all children/youth participants in Ski and Snowboard School Programs and for all students participating in freestyle terrain park programs, regardless of their age. To ensure 100% compliance, a helmet will be included with all children/youth ski and snowboard rental packages.

Lift Line Privileges
Lift line priority is a wonderful privilege for SSS guests. It helps us exceed their expectations, but can be a point of concern for non SSS guests. Please merge politely.
Stop with your class before the lift line. Make sure all students know how to ride the lift, organize the class, then proceed into the SSS line.
Alternate your class with the regular line. Ask guests politely if your students may go ahead. Instructors should go up with the last chair of their group.
Only managers and supervisors have lift line priorities when not with a class. All instructors not teaching a lesson must use the regular line.
Adult Procedures
Line up in the regular line any time there is less than a three minute wait.
Adult pros should allow at least 3 groups of guests to pass between each adult class.
Priority access to the Village Gondola for adult instructors and their classes will be through the left-hand doors into the milling area.
Child Procedures
Please consult the Snow School Safety Manual for detailed lift loading guidelines by age group, ability level, and program.
Ensure that your kids know appropriate behaviour for lifts.
Pros should pair children up with responsible adults as needed. Where possible pair children up with Adult ski school classes to keep the lines moving.
Village Kids classes beginning from the Village Kids registration room will access the lift through the sliding door.

Alpine Procedures for Powder Days (15/15/15 rule)
SS priority line will open 15 minutes after the regular line on a powder day.
Keep your lap times to 15 minutes or more in order to minimize lapping guests who may be waiting in line.

Morning Session Upload
Snow school will be granted early access for the purpose of morning session.
Staff must be on time, load with a supervisor/trainer, and must stay with their trainer until dismissed from session.
Staff must be in uniform on Blackcomb Mtn and on Whistler Mt. unless on a day off.
Certain runs will be designated for AM session. It is very important that snow school use these runs only until public have loaded the lifts.
For more information on morning session please see the training section of the Handbook.
