Internal Designations:
SNOW PARK SAFETY
SNOW PARK SAFETY 2
SNOW PARK SAFETY 1
-
Snow Park Safety (SPS) is the WB Snow School internal designation for accessing a terrain park. It is part of the Ongoing (Paid) Training that we offer at the Snow School.
In addition to an instructor holding their Snow Park Safety designation, the student must be a certain level.
Upon being signed off, each staff member will have an “internal designation” attached to their ProConnect profile and needs to obtain their orange or green sticker from their trainer or supervisor. Wearing this on your name tag is part of your uniform if you wish to use the terrain park.
-
Park Safety has been in place since around 2016 and has evolved over the last few years. At WB we have some serious terrain park features that go beyond the scope of the traditional CSIA and CASI courses so we developed this designation to help support “how to teach in terrain oarks. This includes tactical as well as technical aspects that should be considered, assessed and developed in our students before taking them in the park itself.
Each Snow Park Safety level is designed to build on the one before in addition to in-field experience gained through teaching in appropriate programs and attending elective “Park” sessions.
-
All staff that would like to go into a terrain park with their class (ie you are in uniform), need to be signed off by a Snow Park trainer.
In addition to you holding an SPS level, all students om your class are also required to be a minimum level to access certain parks and features.
Accessing a terrain park should always be with a group who intends to use the park features - we do NOT allow simply riding through the park for fresh snow. Pre-riding to inspect features is expected before hitting the features.
-
Snow Park Safety is done by supervisor sign up only. Your supervisor puts forward the names of their instructors who need (or would like) to do their internal certification and the Training Supervisors fill the groups based on various factors.
You may also be signed off if you hold an equivalent certification to a Snow Park Safety level (see page 25 of the Safety Manual for equivalencies).
-
From the New Year onwards, Snow Park Safety is regularly held on Tuesdays, however we do run sessions on other days (including some weekends) based on participant schedules and trainer availabilities.
-
If you are a new or experienced instructor who has been teaching Levels 4-6 you can likely attend a Snow Park Safety session.
The course covers a range of tactics and techniques that are used outside of the park which you can develop with your students through the SS benchmarks before challenging them with park features.
More expectations are outlined in the session descriptions.
